Adam, Behold Your Woman

There is a disorder out in the community of most western countries that is taking control of 2 to 3 percent of the female population. This disorder is called histrionic personality disorder.

What does histrionic exactly mean? Histrionic stands for dramatic or theatrical. This disorder can cause serious difficulties in relationships, work, or in their lives in general. Mild cases of histrionic disorder may live fairly normal lives with the exception of times of severe stress or pressures in life. The symptoms then take over and interfere with any adequate or normal function. The symptoms are fairly common among narcissistic personality disorders, multi personality disorders and dependant personality disorders. There are five or more symptoms for these disorders:

Craves attention and feel unwelcome when they are not the heart of attention. Unusual sexual or offensive behavior. Fickle with emotions for others. Will use physical form to bring attention to self. Speech is passive, bland, and is deficient in detail. Will express emotions with exaggeration in a dramatic way, again to bring attention to self. Can be swayed to believe anything and everything, trusts too quickly, believe issues without evidence, and even though do not know the full story, will defend this belief with passion. If is in a platonic relationship, will think that the relationship is more personal than it really is.

Histrionic personality disorder is thought to be caused by a strained upbringing, where the parents not wanting to experience conflict, will allow the child even though too young, to make decisions with relationships, foods, or other life issues. This confuses the child with too much responsibility and once grown will suffer with relationships, decisions, and any life issues. A person with histrionic personality disorder will use conflict to induce their own way, and usually cannot maintain relationships.

Treatment is usually group therapy that aids the person with histrionic personality disorder to cope with decisions and life issues, and teaches them how to handle stress and pressures. Group therapy will focus on several points such as trouble shooting, challenging thinking, and sharing with others so as to increase more significant relationships. Medication may also be used. Histrionic personality disorder uses a therapy program much like Alcoholic Anonymous which uses a four to twelve week program with steps to achieve normal behavior.

It is recommended that people, who are in relationship with people with histrionic personality disorders, attend several classes so as to understand the disease. People who are in relationships with people with the following disorders: histrionic personality, narcissistic personality, or dependant personality have the mentality that they are behaving this way on purpose. This could be further from the truth as these disorders are triggered subconsciously.
