Who Loves You Baby?Do you know someone who behaves is this bizarre way? They constantly have problem relationships and difficulties at work. They are unable to control impulses of anger and low self esteem. They are antisocial and lash out at the drop of a hat. There is a disorder called narcissistic personality disorder or antisocial personality disorder or a paranoid personality disorder that deals with just these issues that seem to be plaguing that person you know. So what can be done? Knowledge is one way to cope. Narcissistic personality disorders are disorders that can cause the patient great pain and distress. Six stages or stipulations are recognized with a person with narcissistic personality disorder. The first is a sense of self-importance where one will exaggerate achievement and insist on superior treatment though not qualified to be so. Second they exist in a dream life of success, good looks, or perfect love. Third they think they are special or privileged and compare themselves to high-status or important people. Fourth, they take advantage of others they have relationships with and treat them with arrogance and pride. Fifth, they are envious of others and believe that others are envious of them. Sixth and final they lack empathy and ignore others' feelings. Narcissistic personality disorders can render the one who has it, feeling negative about themselves, which has them act negative with others. Paranoid personality disorder treatment can include several options. One is group therapy where the person can share their paranoia with others who struggle with the disorder as well. This has been proven to be a successful therapy since the person with narcissistic personality disorder has a need to talk about themselves and this can satisfy that need. It also helps the person realize their negative behavior and adjust their views or feelings. Second is medication that can help the person with narcissistic personality disorder retain calm and a feel good attitude. This medication usually relieves depression and anxiety and helps the person remain positive with others. Third is usually for severe cases and that is hospitalization with drug and group therapy. Some cases can also require both drug and group therapy but without hospitalization. Narcissistic personality disorder treatment usually requires only group or drug therapy with the severe cases including several other personality disorders besides the narcissistic personality disorder. Psychologists usually treat patients with mild cases while psychiatrists treat patients with severe or multiple personality disorders. Narcissistic personality disorders are well known in the psychiatric medical community and have been studied for centuries. Though narcissistic personality disorders are well known, no cure has yet been found for the disease. Group therapy and drug therapy simply treat the symptoms, not the disease. Know though that like all other personality disorders, narcissistic personality disorder is believed to be caused by neglect in earlier childhood and/or social environment. |
