Witch CurseOccupational Personality Disorder Multiple personalities! What is up with that? Believe or not there are people who believe that they have a multiple personality disorder. Remember Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? True story? Maybe, maybe not, but there are true stories out there and the number are growing more and more each day. What causes multiple personality disorders? Many doctors believe it is from early child abuse or neglect. Remember Sybil? True story, yes really! This child went through horrific circumstances from an abusive crazy mother who probably suffered with her own personality disorder. The doctor who treated her lost count of how many multiple personalities Sybil had. Now the Cleveland clinic department of Psychiatry has diagnosed thousands of multiple personalities. These patients suffer from many disorders such as borderline personality disorder and occupational personality disorder to name just two. The history of personality disorders has been around for centuries but with little understanding for the disease. Many sufferers were locked up and forgotten to live out their idiosyncrasies alone and rejected. Many were abused or killed, believing they were possessed with demons or were cursed by a witch. Today, thankfully doctors are more receptive as well as the community since the disorder reports are rising. One that is still struggles with is the multiple personality disorders. Doctors and professionals debate is still today if it really exists. Does it or is the person simply choosing to behave in abnormal ways to prevent any dealing with reality? Many psychiatrists believe that patients with multiple personality disorders have been pushed to the limit of what their brain can handle so they retreat somewhere in their subconscious and allow an alter personality to appear in their stead. Multiple personality disorders may result in violent attacks from the patient and many must be hospitalized or supervised closely at home. Ironically patients with multiple personality disorders blame others for their dilemma and sometimes this is true with the case of Sybil, however the idiosyncrasies are problems their own brain has created, because help did not come in time. Group therapy can help milder disorders but if these disorders are left untreated can result into a multiple personality disorder which is usually too late or too far progressed to treat. Fortunately though today more doctors recognize the symptoms because of studies and reports such as from the Cleveland Clinic department of psychiatry and they want to help their patients live productive lives. Productivity is the key in all therapies and with medication can allow the disorder to perhaps become manageable. There is no cure, but treatment is successful and the disorder can be overcome.
